Position: Investigator in Chemical Safety
The Swedish Chemicals Agency (KemI) is a government authority tasked with reducing the risks of chemicals harming people and the environment. About the Department
The Development Department develops strategies, chemical regulations, and other policy instruments within KemI's area of responsibility at the national, EU, and international levels. The department is also responsible for environmental goal work and international development efforts.
The Strategies and Mandates Unit is responsible for developing policy instruments and overarching strategies within the authority's scope, handling public consultations, and managing the government mandates received by the agency. We also develop collaborative formats for dialogue with other authorities, businesses, and other stakeholders.
Responsibilities
Chemical safety is one of the major environmental challenges of our time. We are now looking for someone who wants to help shape the future of chemical control.
The Swedish Chemicals Agency is seeking an Investigator to work within the unit's areas of responsibility. This may involve participating in government mandates, working on the follow-up or evaluation of environmental quality objectives, or contributing to research projects in which the authority participates. You may also analyze and investigate strategies and measures within the chemical field to find the most effective ways to achieve a toxin-free environment.
You will participate in developing regulations and other policy instruments to limit the use, spread, and exposure to hazardous chemicals. Tasks may also include preparing documentation for the Government Offices. The work involves contact with ministries, other authorities, businesses, and organizations. The position may also include participation in expert groups both nationally and within the EU.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone with a degree in natural sciences or engineering with a focus on chemistry, toxicology, or a related field. A doctoral education is an asset. You should have several years of work experience in the environmental field, preferably within the public sector.
It is an advantage if you have previous experience in strategic work on environmental issues, preventive chemical control, or the national environmental quality objectives. Experience working at or in close collaboration with ministries, other authorities in the chemical field, or similar issues within the business sector is also an asset.
Your working style is characterized by good teamwork skills, flexibility, structure, problem-solving ability, good judgment, and lack of pretension. You are skilled at independently gathering and analyzing facts and identifying strategic connections, while also being adept at turning data into clear action proposals. We value your openness to develop within several different competence areas. You are communicative and a good writer who can adapt texts and explain complex relationships to different target groups. You express yourself well in speech and writing in both Swedish and English. We place great importance on your personal qualities.
